How do teams and foursome work?  We used to write them on the stubs we sent in?

It's a similar process.  Instead of writing them on paper, now as you register for an event you will be shown an event registration page that shows your personal data.  Among the fields on this page are two critical ones - Name of Team and Name of Foursome.  As long as you and your team mate(s) put down EXACTLY the same name, you'll be paired as a team, or as a foursome.  Remember each twosome needs a UNIQUE name; each foursome needs a UNIQUE name.  As each member of your team or foursome registers for an event, you MUST ALL put in the same name.

I signed us all up, doesn't Golf Genius know we're a team, or a foursome?

No.  Even though one person did the sign-ups, Golf Genius treats each registration as an individual.  Registrations for Events in Golf Genius (GG) are made, carried and viewed as registrations of individuals, whether a registration is made for a player via his own single entry, or as a part of another player making a registration for himself and one or more other players.

When GG rosters are viewed or worked with for setting up players for events, there is no full name connection used to relate one player to another player for a team, or for four players to be grouped into a foursome. That’s where name of team and name foursome come into play.

For players that want to play together as a two person team, and for two teams that want to be grouped together as a foursome, we use Name of Team and Name of Foursome in GG. These are the system keys for pairing two players into a team, and two teams into a foursome.

This information has to be input into EACH event registration FOR EACH PLAYER individually. To be paired with a particular player, both players need to have the same name of team name entered for a particular event. And for foursomes, the same name foursome must be entered in the registration for a particular event for all four players. This will require that you coordinate with other players you want to play with for each event.

I change partners almost every event, and we like to change foursomes up to.  How do we hangle it?

Each event keeps it's own records - a unique roster and unique player profile.  Each event is separate, what you do in one event does not effect another event.  Because each one is separate as you complete your player profile for each event you are telling Golf Genius how to handle you for that event, and that event only.

You and your teammate can choose whatever name you like for an event, or use the same one for all events (easier!).  If you play in multiple events we recommend you choose a team captain who tells eveyone on the team, or in the foursome what the name is for that event.  Two key things to remember.   First the names selected must match exactly for all of the players; second they must be unique.

Remember -  each event is independent and unique (Oak Hills is independent of Firethorn), you can use the same team name and foursome names for different events with different players, as long as all players use the same names for a particular event.

What if I leave the team name or foursome name blank?

If no team names or foursome names are entered into a registration, the system will assign players into teams, and teams into foursomes, at random.  If you want to play with your partner, you need to pay attention and get these entered at the time of registration or via “Edit Player Profile” feature for each event.

I forgot to put in my name of team, what do I do?

Players can go into each event after registration and use the “Edit Registration” feature to change or update Team and Foursome information, but each player has to do that individually. Once a registration has been created, even if for multiple players at one time, the edit feature only works for an individual, not for a group.

Can I see an example of team names and foursomes?

Simple Team and Foursome names can be used, such as player initials, or more interesting names can be used. Here’s a simple example, where the same players switch partners for different events.

                                                     Event A                                         Event B

     Players                       Team               Foursome            Team               Foursome

John Doe                    JDGF              JGSM                    JDSS                 JGSM

George Friend            JDGF              JGSM                    GFMH                JGSM

Stanly Sandbagger     SSMH            JGSM                    JDSS                  JGSM

Max  Handicap            SSMH            JGSM                    GFMH                JGSM

While team names can be just player initials as exampled above, more interesting team names will be fun and easier to recognize when winners are posted.

Does your team want to play with a specific team at an event, i.e. make up your own foursome?
If you don't have a foursome name in no problem, we'll pair you with another team.  If you want to play with another team specifically all four players need to put the same foursome name into the foursome name slot.

Each member of the foursome needs to go into their Players' Registration/Player Profile and edit their foursome name to a common foursome name. If that is not done, your team will be paired at random with another team. If you are ok with this random foursome pairing, you do not need to do anything.

This same procedure will apply to all events, so you may want to coordinate with other players and update team and foursome names for all events you are registered for.

When do we have to finalize our team mate (two some) or our foursome?

Teams and foursomes for the actual event will be locked on the Thursday before each event.   We also can not make any changes in assignments at the course on the day of the event, so don't even ask.

What if I get sick?

If a player finds they cannot play just before the event due to illness or other acceptable reasons, we will accommodate a substitute player, but that player will be put in the team and foursome that the absent player was previously assigned to.

I fogot to put in my team/foursome name.  What do I do? How do I set, change or update my team name or foursome name?

Go to our home page, ENSG.GolfGenius.com, and click on Step 3 - Event Registration.  Scroll down the list of events to find the one you've registered for and click on the event name (Players Club, etc). it.  It will take you a page with a name like:

     ensga-ashlandgolfclub.golfgenius.com

You will see the Event name in large black and white letters across the top.  Below it is a banner menu (goes from left to right across the page).  Then:

  1. There's a tab on the menu called Player Info.  Click on it to see the drop down menu and choose Golfer Profile.
  2. Scroll down the page and click the button on the bottom called Edit Profile.
  3. A new screen pops up with the data for this event only.  All of your data is listed in alphabetical order.
  4. Scroll down to find your Name of foursome or your name of team field.  Edit them and when complete scroll down to the bottom of the page and click save.
  5. Each team member, or member of your foursome must use exactly the same name.

You can check your data as you will return to Your Profile.

How will we establish handicaps?

We have your scoring history at various courses.  From your history we will calculate your handicap index using the World Handicapping system.  Based upon your index you will have a handicap calculated for you each week based upon the tees we're playing.  Your index will be updated after every round.

Will someone in each foursome have to have a smartphone to keep score in the app?

Yes.  We plan to use on Golf Genius for scoring during our third phase of 2023.  Each team will keep all four scores, one on Golf Genius, one using the scorecard provided by the club, or ENSGA.  You need to compare scores and make sure what's in Golf Genius matches your paper card.

What if you have groups who can’t score on a phone or want to score on paper scorecard?

See above.

Does the app save automatically if the app unexpectedly quits? Scores are transferred in real time to the server.  If your phone quits just finish on paper.  Key thing to remember is thousands of rounds a day go through golf genius.  It works.

Will there be flights?

Yes, three flights for each event.
